The journey to Yala starts as soon as your designated driver picks you up from your hotel in Bentota.Once you reach Yala National Park the real adventure begins. You will transfer to a safari jeep here. The entrance fees and half- day safari costs are included in the Yala One day tour package.
Yala National Park is a wildlife sanctuary. There are 5 blocks inside Yala as it covers a large portion of land. Yala is home to a lot of wild animals. Some of them are even considered endangered. Leopards, elephants, sloth bears, water buffalo, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species are some of the main animals you will see here. Some frequent animal sightings that can be seen are the spotted deer ,monkeys, wild boar and the indian peafowl. Since Yala is spread over a large portion of land, there are many lagoons, lakes and ponds here.Normally elephants , water buffaloes and crocodiles can be seen in such areas. The ‘ Thunpath Rana’ is a very rare sighting in Yala. It is a family unit of elephants along with a baby elephant.
The Yala park also has access to several beaches.Pattangala Beach is another stop to see during the safari. This beach along with its resthouse was whipped by the Tsunami . There is a tsunami monument built here to remember the lives that were lost back in 2004.
The highlight of the Yala Safari is spotting the Sri Lankan Leopard. Even Though there are around 25 leopards living inside the wild sanctuary , sightings are rare. Your safari driver and tour guide will take you to the best sighting places. Patience is a must have in this safari as wild life is unpredictable.
There are around 90 bird species in the wetland areas of Yala. Most of these birds are migrants. You will be able to spot various flower and tree species as well. Your experienced guide will help you understand the park’s flora fauna through interesting facts. You will be able to take many interesting pictures and videos without disturbing the peace of the animals living here.
As the safari comes to an end you can take a break for lunch .This can be arranged at a local restaurant or a designated picnic area within the park. You can try out local dishes that bring out the flavors of Sri Lankan Cuisine.After Lunch you can start your journey back to Bentota . Since it's a long drive you can sit back and enjoy the comfort of the air-conditioned vehicle. The day tour will end once you arrive safely at your hotel .
