Boasting about the architecture, history and lush greenery, Pinnawal is among the tourist destination in Sri Lanka which has earned its fame. It is a small town in the village but there are a lot of places to visit. We will take a look at those places.
Elephant Orphanage is the main attraction in Pinnawala district. Every year thousands of tourists visit this orphanage to see elephants from the babies to adults. The elephants live in their natural; habitant and hence are happy.
The target of this orphanage is to protect and take care of the wild elephants which live in the Sri Lanka Jungle. At the moment there are over 20 elephants in the orphanage.
Every day, these elephants are taken to the river at least 2 times where they take a bath and enjoy playing in the water. It is exciting to see these big 5 animals playing in the water. The elephants babies less than 3 years are bottle fed at the orphanage by mahouts working at the orphanage and volunteers. During the visit at the orphanage you will be taken on guided tour and will get to a lot of about elephants.

This location is typically out of sight for tourists due to its remote location. There is a royal palace, two monasteries, and dagoba ramparts in the countryside, all of which are hidden.
These are the only remnants of Panduwasnuwara, Sri Lanka's capital during the Land of the South period. It was built by Parakrama the Great in the 12th century. The temple of the sacred tooth relic has been rebuilt and kept outside the ramparts. There is a tiny museum here that preserves and displays artifacts from the site.
Situated in Kurunegala district Gokarella village, this among the well places in Sri Lanka. The popularity came about due to the engraved ancient inscriptions. They are highly valued and are about peace.
The inscription was originally peace treaty. On the west side, there is a temple located on a rocky hill facing Meddekitiya. The peace agreement was reached not to fight each other and write it on a rock slab. The two parties gathered at the place to fight and after consideration realized the war is mean less and each part decided not to fight.
The two parties which wanted to fight were King Gajabahu 2 and King Parakramabahun 1. The original inscription and translation is found on the rock mountain.

The dry season April to September is the best time to visit Pinnawala. The weather during this time is pleasant because there is minimal rainfall. Therefore, you can get to explore different places in the district and also get to enjoy watching the elephants bathe.
