Best Time to Visit: If you are travelling to Cambodia the best time to that is during the summer season which is from October to April.
What to Wear: If you are travelling during the summer period as recommended you should carry light clothing. If you are planning to visits temples, ensure you carry clothes that can cover the shoulders and kneels such as long sleeved shirts and long dresses. Also have some smart casual for dinners, a light jacket that can cover you in case of a cold evening or rains.
Local Currency: Cambodia’s local currency is Khmer Riel but you can also use the US dollars, Euros, sterling pounds as they are also widely accepted. You may also use a visa and MasterCard since they are accepted in most hotels and shopping areas.
Etiquette: The Cambodians perform a type of greeting known as sampeah when saying good bye and hello. As a sign of respect they put the palms of their hands together in front of their chest and bow. Approximately 97 percent of Cambodia population are Buddhists and therefore any religious images and monuments should be treated with respect.
Language: The national language in Cambodia is the Khmer. However, in recent times English has become common in places such as hotels, restaurants, business places and therefore you are good to go. You can learn a few words in their national language for impressing locals.
Health requirements: It is recommended you get immunized against tetanus, hepatitis A and diphtheria before going to Cambodia. Also there is presence of malaria in the country especially in the deep forested areas so if you are planning to visit deep inside, you can consider getting an anti-malaria medication.
Food and Water: Always use safe bottled water and avoid tap water. Always take great care when eating food and vegetables outside reputable hotels and restaurants. Street food might expose you to health issues.
Medication: If you are under any prescribed medication please ensure that you carry enough supply for the period you are in Cambodia. Confirm with the embassy if the medication is legal in the country. If you have any special dietary requirements you can communicate in advance to your hosts so that they can prepare.
