Day Tour to Galle from Colombo

Our journey begins with the driver picking you up from the hotel in Colombo. It’s a drive down south in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. The first stop is at the Madu River. It’s famous for its natural mangrove caves and forests. You will be able to ride on a Safari Boat on the Madu River. There are a few stops in this boat ride. Biodiversity is very high here, so you will be able to spot a few wildlife species as well.The Cinnamon Island is a stop in this boat ride. You will be able to understand about the local cinnamon manufacturing and even purchase some authentic cinnamon infused products. The temple located at “Koth Duwa” is another interesting sight in this safari. You will get to end the boat ride by experiencing the famous ‘Fish Therapy.’ There are small tubs of water filled with small fish called “ Gurra Rufa” to do these fish pedicures. The Madhu Boat River won’t be complete until you try the ‘Kirala’ - Mangrove Apple fruit juice.

The next stop would be at the Sea Turtle Hatchery. There are different species of turtles here. Most are rescued as they are in danger of losing their life to the local fishing industry. You will be able to understand the rehabilitate process for these turtles and how they are taken care of. If you are lucky you will be able to witness the release of baby turtles into the sea. Sometimes the workers will allow visitors to touch the turtles . It should be followed gently and with precaution.

Our Final stop is at the Galle Fort. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The streets are filled with cafes and old houses. The houses are built according to the Dutch style and their architecture resembles the colonial era. There are also art museums , galleries, and boutique shops inside the Galle Fort. The clock tower, old Dutch hospital,Maritime Museum, and the ‘All Saints church’ are some of the unique places to see. Beyond the Galle Fort wall you will be able to see the Indian Ocean and even catch a sunset.

You can take the remaining time to enjoy other attractive places to visit in Galle Fort.There are a lot of hidden gems inside. You can try out different Cafe’s, shop for souvenirs, or simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings.There are a lot of photogenic places that many tourists come looking for.

Finally you can come back to the vehicle. From here will start the journey back to Colombo. The Galle tour will end once you arrive safely at your hotel.
