Galle Day Tour from Bentota

The day tour begins as soon as our driver picks you up from Bentota. Bentota is at the heart of down south leading to many attractions there. The Marine and Galle day tour is fun packed with many interesting sights to see. First off you will be heading to Aluthgama. It is famous for water sports done in the Bentota River. This package includes a 3 km Banana Boat ride, a 3 km Sofa Boat ride, and a 3 km Jetski ride. The experienced staff there will guide through all the activities. Make Sure you have your lifejacket on at all times. Apart from these water sports ,Snorkeling, Flyfish Ride, Water Skiing , Speed Boat Ride, WindSurfing, Kayaking and Wakeboarding are some of the other activities you can do. The charges for these are not included in the tour package. You can arrange them there itself.

After a thrilling time with water sports you can head onto your vehicle to travel towards the Madhu River. This is a river safari which will help you relax and unwind. Some of the few stops along this ride is Cinnamon Island, Koth Duwa Temple and Fish Therapy. There are a lot of shops offering ‘Kirala’ - Mangrove Apple fruit juice along the river , which is something unique to this river safari. In the Cinnamon Island you will get an idea about the local cinnamon manufacturing process. There are some interesting products made from pure cinnamon as well. Cinnamon oil, cinnamon sticks, cinnamon candles and cinnamon tea are some of teh products you can buy from here.The temple located at “Koth-Duwa” is another interesting sight in this safari. You will get to end the boat ride by experiencing the famous ‘Fish Therapy.’ There are small tubs of water filled with small fish called “ Gurra Rufa” to do these fish pedicures. All throughout your time in this lagoon you will be able to see the rich biodiversity and the natural mangrove caves .

The next stop is a nearby Sea Turtle Hatchery. There are different species of turtles here. You can learn about the conservation and rehabilitate process for these turtles and how they are taken care of. Most are rescued as they are in danger of losing their life to the local fishing industry. If you are lucky you will be able to witness the release of baby turtles into the sea. Sometimes the workers will allow visitors to touch the turtles . It should be followed gently and with precaution. You will also get an understanding on the different stages of turtle development, from eggs to hatchlings.

The rest of the tour can be taken to explore around the Galle Fort. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The houses here are built according to the Dutch style and their architecture resembles the colonial era. There are also art museums , galleries, and boutique shops inside the Galle Fort. The clock tower, old Dutch hospital,Maritime Museum, and the ‘All Saints church’ are some of the unique places to see. Once you reach the Galle Fort wall you will be able to see the beautiful Indian Ocean as well. You can also plan ahead and do your own sightseeing of attractive places to visit in Galle Fort.

Finally you can head on to the vehicle to depart back to your hotel. You can enjoy the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle as you head back to Bentota.
