Horton Plains National Park

The park is known for it rich biodiversity and endemic species. Three major Sri Lankan rivers, the Kelani, Walawe and Mahaweli have their headwaters in the Horton Plains. Visiting this park presents you an opportunity to explore nature and also view wildlife.

World’s End

The World’s End is a sheer cliff with a drop of about 4,000 feet. It is one of the most visited places in the Park and a favorite holiday destination for many hikers visiting Nuwara Eliya. While here you can also check out the Mini World’s End, which is a smaller cliff of about 1,000 feet drop. It is just a kilometer away from the main cliff.

Baker’s Falls

This waterfall is located on a tributary of the Belihul Oya and it is 20 meters (66feet) high.

Wildlife spotting

The park is home to a variety of wildlife which if you are lucky, you will spot when trekking. The popular wildlife there include the sambar deer, toque macaques, purple-faced langurs, rusty-spotted cat, Sri Lankan leopards, wild boars, stripe-necked mongooses among others.

Beautiful sceneries

The park has an amazing landscape thanks to the many plant species occupying it. There are over 750 species of plants in the park. The trees also create a serene ambience suitable for hiking.

6. Itinerary

Our safari begins by the driver picking you up from your hotel. Note that this will happen early in the morning as it takes some time to reach Yala. Once you reach Yala National Park the real adventure begins. You will embark on a safari jeep here. The entrance fees and half- day safari costs are included in the Yala One day tour package.

Pickup from your hotel

Arabiers assigns you a driver to pick you up from your hotel or residence in Nuwara Eliya. The driver will drive you to Horton Plains National Park which is just a few minutes away.

Visit Horton Plains National Park

Take a walk in the park and take in the beauty of the landscape. You will spot a variety of flora and fauna as you walk through the park.

Go to World’s End

Proceed to World’s End, a sheer cliff where the plateau comes to a dramatic end. The cliff provides magical views of the valley below.

Visit Baker’s Fall

Go to the Baker’s Fall, which is a 66 feet high waterfall in the park. The cascading water and surrounding greenery is perfect for relaxation and also offers a beautiful backdrop for taking photos.

Go back and spot wildlife on your way

You can go back through the park and as you do so ensure that you keep checking for wild animals such as the elusive leopard sambar deer and different species of birds. The environment of the park is so diversified and this gives a perfect opportunity for spotting of wildlife.
