Whale Watching Trip from Colombo

The tour begins as our driver picks you up at your hotel in Colombo. You get to enjoy a comfortable ride towards Mirissa in an air conditioned vehicle. This will happen early in the morning because you have to start your whale watching adventure by 6.00- 6.30 a.m. in the morning. You can come here and get on the boat and make yourself comfortable. The boat has all the necessary safety equipment ready. It also has very comfortable seating along with a washroom. You will be given life jackets according to your clothes size. Before starting the journey to the middle of the sea, your captain will explain the journey along with some instructions. Halfway through the journey you will be served breakfast that includes some buns and beverages. The departure usually takes place around 7.00a.m. It is important to take sea sickness tablets by now, so you can enjoy the journey ahead. There will be a lot of marine creatures to see until you are able to see the most awaited creature, the whale.

You can take the next 4-5 hours of the boat ride to look around and spot many sea creatures. These include blue whales, fin whales, dolphins, and sometimes Bryde's whales, sperm whales, killer whales, short-finned whales, turtles, and flying fish. You will even be able to go to the deck of the boat and take some pictures with the beautiful blue sea. The duration of the tour depends on your sightings. Please note that the whale sightings can't be guaranteed, as marine life is unpredictable. However the boat crew will take you to the best sighting spots. You will also get more snacks along the way.

After the whale watching adventure you will head back to land by noon. Upon returning to Mirissa you can take this time to have your lunch. This is not included in the package. You can try out some of the local restaurants and taste seafood dishes of your choice. Your travel guide will be able to give you some good recommendations.

After lunch you can take the time to enjoy yourself. Mirissa Beach is very beautiful with its crystal clear waters. You can swim, sunbathe or even read books under the trees at the beach. There are a lot of places to explore in this area as well. Coconut Tree Hill and Parrot Hill are some of the main tourist attractions in Mirissa. The locations are best for beautiful pictures amidst coconut trees and the sea.

Finally you can come back to the vehicle. From here will start the journey back to Colombo. The day tour will end once you arrive safely at your hotel.
